ATPBR`s 5F Farming Conference at Pune

Foundation for Advanced Training in Plant Breeding (ATPBR) is organizing its fourth 5F Farming conference on the theme of Globalization of India’s Crop Improvement Research at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Pune, Maharashtra from 19th to 21st January 2023 in partnership with The Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV) Rahuri, National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management, Baramati and Agharkar Research Institute (ARI) Pune.
Food, Feed, Fiber, Fuel, and Fine chemicals are the vital components of 5F Farming. Several luminaries from both public and private sector will participate and deliberate on issues that help support the theme and those that impede the process.
Dr Himanshu Pathak Director General, ICAR has kindly consented to attend and inaugurate the conference on 19th January afternoon and deliver the inaugural key note address. Mr. Ram Kaundinya Director General FSII will deliver his vision lecture on Overview of Indian Seed sectors` opportunities beyond India and its impact on increasing small holder farmer incomes.
There will be several valuable presentations by eminent speakers from the industry and academia in the sessions on Current successes & future prospects:

1.Case studies of successful crop improvement researches leading to export of hybrid seeds bred in India and other opportunities like product exports,
2.Seed Legislation: Panel Discussion: Challenges: IP, Policies, internal issue, import – export, breeding related,
3.Seed Production: India as a hub for quality seed production for global companies. Status & Challenges,
4.Harnessing talent through capacity building: India’s strength is young talent but better opportunities for them in India as well as in other countries is a challenge,
5.PPP: Panel Discussion: Scope of partnership i.e., private-private, public-private for Crop Improvement Programs – Multi Institutional/Multi Geographic with global relevance,
6.Crop improvement in protected cultivation – Opportunities for export-oriented research and for external markets.
ATPBR has been recognizing the significant contributions of the plant breeders and institutions in India through its awards for excellence since 2020. This year`s awards for Lifetime Achievement, Women Achievers and Excellence in Seed Industry will be presented during the conference.
The book Market-Driven Plant Breeding for Practicing Breeders authored by Aparna Tiwari, Sadananda A. R., Sharan P. Angadi, Suresh Babu Kadaru, Surinder K. Tikoo, Vasudeva Rao M. J., and published by Springer this year will also be released during the event.
