Brazil starts exporting dairy products to China in August

Brazil’s first dairy exports to China are expected to take place next August, said Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.
Minister Tereza Cristina, in an interview with a TV Globo associate television channel in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, said that after the approval of 24 industrial units by the Chinese authorities, the only step left to take if for the veterinarians responsible to sanction the shipment, “ which should take place, 29 August.”
“Brazil is not a big exporter of dairy products, but it will be, which is particularly good for the sector, which is experiencing a major crisis due to producer prices,” said the minister.
Tereza Cristina said that China imports about 800,000 tonnes of dairy products a year, about 200,000 tonnes more than Brazil produces, and is gladly accepting imported products “after a serious case of milk contamination that occurred a few years ago.”
The Agriculture Minister is due to travel to China in August, her second trip since taking office, following the first one in May.
Tereza Cristina also said she expects China to also become more open to meat produced in Brazil, as China has been suffering from a serious epidemic of African swine fever, which has led large numbers of pigs to be slaughtered and imports are expected to rise. (Macauhub)
