ICAR-IIRR organizes 57th annual rice group meeting

The ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad recently organized the 57th Annual Rice Group Meeting.
Trilochan Mohapatra, secretary, DARE and director general, ICAR, stressed on the importance of developing multi-stress tolerant rice varieties.
“Popularization and adoption of the varieties that have been released over the years and to develop and release the varieties only after the markets and consumer’s preferences are important. There should also be documentation of the extent of varietal spread, while calculation of varietal spread based on the breeder’s seed indent should be discouraged,’ he said.
Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR said that it is important to use modern, cutting edge technologies including IoT, Genomics and Precision Agriculture in developing rice varieties with high productivity, which are suitable for different ecosystems and a rapidly changing climate.
R K Singh, ADG (FFCI), ICAR said that rice is one of the most important crops in the country with largest area and production. “It is necessary to improve the production and productivity and productivity of rice in addressing issues of malnutrition and food security of the nation,” he said.
